Description
The lands of "Eckau" are located in Russia, in the Curonian Government, and cover an area of about 27,400 hectares. Former estate of the Dukes of Courland, it became in 1796, after the annexation of the Courland to Russia, the property of the Russian Imperial Government and, in the same year, in recognition of the distinguished services rendered to the Crown by Count Peter Pahlen. General of Cavalry, and later Governor-General of Petrograd, Empress Catherine II donated it to this estate.
Since that time, these vast lands erected as Majorat belong to the family of the Counts of Pahlen, who, as early as 1835, began an agronomic exploitation.
The name of "Eckau" was known in Paris by the importation of the products of the Estate which was made in 1845 by the Count Pierre de Pahlen, son of the first major, then ambassador of Russia in France.
The exquisite liquor was first marketed in bright green bottles, simply wearing the label. A shade of darker glass was then adopted and the bottle then took on its characteristic shape.

Color Key
We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century.

Shipping fee
A flat shipping fee of $ 30 is added to each shipment by DHL within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
We charge only one shipping fee when you have been successful on multiple items or when you want to combine gallery and auction purchases.
