Description
In the title, the "South Part" of Great Britain refers to the union of England and Scotland in 1707.
The title continues "With ye names of ye Rivers, Seaports, Sands, Hills, Moors, Forests &c. All ye Great or Post Roads, and principal Cross-Roads &c. With ye Computed Miles from Town to Town , and all ye Post Towns, as they are at present regulated by the Postmasters Genl. of the General Post House. According to ye most approved Surveys, and accurate Observations. By Herman Moll Geographer. A.D. 1710."
Large, and featuring a decorative title and dedication cartouches that are fully colored. The map is printed on two sheets and joined, as was issued.
The title cartouche includes coat of arms and a fleet of ships. Another cartouche near the top left features a dedication to 'Francis lord Viscount Rialton' with the Godolphin family coat of arms and a country scene depicting horse riders.
The imprint at top left reads "Printed for H. Moll, over against Devereux Court without Temple Bar. Panels at left and right listing hundreds of place names keyed to the map.
Herman Moll (1654–1732), was a London cartographer, engraver, and publisher. He moved to England in 1678 and opened a book and map store in London. He produced maps from his studies of the work of other cartographers.
