Description
A very rare example of a map of the duchy of Brabant. Title cartouche in the lower left-hand corner. A very rare issue of this map of Brabant. Cornelis Danckerts II. copied the folio map of H.Hondius.
The publisher's address was placed in the lower left-hand corner.
No atlases by Danckerts are known: this rare map has been preserved only in loose-sheet copies.
In the first half of the 17th century, the publishing house Hondius / Janssonius / Blaeu dominated the map publishing in Europe. It is known that at the beginning of the 17th century the French publishers went to Amsterdam, buying those maps not available in Paris.
The Amsterdam publisher Cornelis Danckerts the elder made selling trips to Paris and was associated with Melchior Tavernier, who became at the beginning of the 16th century the most important publisher in Paris. He was very much influenced by the Dutch and must have visited Amsterdam on a regular basis. In 1638 he paid 500 pounds to H.Hondius, and 1000 pounds to Willem Blaeu, most likely in payment for maps he sold in depot. J.Boisseau copied after or used maps by H.Hondius, J.Jansson, W.Blaeu and C.Danckerts in his "Theatre de Gaules" from 1642. (Reference: Imago Mundi 32. M.Pastoureau, Imago Mundi 32).

- Items will be listed for 7 days. In the first day of the sale, users are only able to add items to their "My Buy or Bid" page".
- Starting at 4.00 PM EST (Amsterdam 22.00) the following day up to the closing you may purchase an item at the Buy price.
- Once the Buy price is paid the sale for this item has closed.
- We show the "Bid & Ask spread" (to define the gap between the minimum accepted bid and Buy price.)
- Items that have received bids within the BidAsk spread are sold at the highest bid at closing.
- For bids entered within the BidAsk spread, we use the proxy-bidding process, so you are getting the item at the lowest possible price.

- A buyer outside the European Union pays, on top of the sale price, a premium of 18 % on the first € 30,000 (or $35,700 ) and 10% on the excess.
