Description
No other book exercised such an influence in promoting travel to remote countries as this book. Included are the folding maps of the Near East with India and the map of the east coast of Africa, booth in very good condition. The text is complete.
Describing both the East and West Indies, with extensive descriptions of the exotic regions and lavish illustrations, engraved after designs of the author by John and Bapt. Van Doetecom. The large maps are engraved by Arn. and Henr. Florentinus a Langren. Of special importance is the large double hemisphere world map, with the address of Plancius (Shirley 187).
Linschoten had been in Portuguese service in the East Indies for nearly ten years and as well versed in the navigation of these regions, as well as in the Spanish and Portuguese roteiros , e.g. the one of Diego Affonso Royal Pilot of Portugal.

Some minor repairs of a few plates and slightly discoloration of a few pages.
