Description
The Théâtre des Folies Bergère is a famous Parisian performance hall inaugurated on May 2, 1869 and is still active.
Today, it presents musicals, musical shows and current music concerts.
Published by Ets Saint-Martin.
The poster offers a fantastic design by Erte (Romain de Tirtoff) showing a semi-nude dancer wearing a feather helmet swirling around her body as she holds a large blue fan above her head with the Folies Bergere on it.
Founded in 1869 and still in operation today, the Folies Bergere became popular in the 1890s and attracted star artists like Charlie Chaplin, Edith Piaf, Josephine Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, WC Fields, Frank Sinatra and others.
Helene Martini (aka The Empress of the Night, 1925-2017) was a showgirl who ran the Folies Bergere from 1974 to 2000 (she bought the club in 1977).
Romain de Tirtoff dit Erté (1892 - 1990) is a Russian artist naturalized French.
Erté has distinguished himself in turn in fashion, drawing, lithography, and costume making for the most prestigious theaters and magazines.
Placed under the sign of art deco, his work, unique in the inventiveness of its graphics, perfectly reflects the aesthetics of the years 1910-1930.
