Description
It displays the area between Cochem on the Mosel, Frankfurt, Marbach, and Saarlouis, the Electorate Palatinate on the Rhine with the Bishopric of Worms, Speyer, and the Duchy of Zweibrücken.
At the top right is a decorative figural title cartouche, surrounded by Bacchus, Ceres, and Mars and two putti holding the coat of arms of the Palatinate. On the bottom left is a cartouche with legend and mileage scale framed by vines and a cherub.
Johann Baptist Homann (1664–1724) was a German geographer and cartographer. In 1716, Homann published his masterpiece “Grosser Atlas ueber die ganze Welt” (Grand Atlas of all the World).
Homann died in Nuremberg. He was succeeded by the Homann heirs company, which was in business until 1848.
