Description
\\\"Comites ac Duces Wirtembergici\\\" is a highly detailed copper engraving featuring the family tree of the Counts & Dukes of Wurttemberg. At the bottom is a detailed birds-eye view of the city of Stuttgart. On the reverse is Latin text about the people in the family tree. The depiction is beautifully decorated by floral elements, coats of arms and portraits.
This double size engraving is a lavish example of early baroque book decoration that comes from “Principum Chrsitianum Stemmata”, first published in 1612 in Augsburg. It is an interesting collection of engravings showing the leading royal and noble houses of Europe and includes the Ottoman Sultans.
Antonio Albizzi (1547-1626) was an Italian genealogist and jurist. He was born in Florence and died in Bavaria. In 1585 he converted to Lutheranism and in 1608 he moved to Germany.
