Including 6 celestial maps, a World Map in 2 sheets, Europe in 2 sheets, France in 4 sheets, Spain and Portugal in 2 sheets surrounded with vignettes, Italy in 2 sheets, Otttoman Empire in 2 sheets, Colton's Map of the United States (dated 1852) in 2 sheets surrounded with vignettes (map mounted).
COLTON. Map of the United States of America, the British Provinces, Mexico, the West Indies and Central America, with Part of New Granada and Venezuela. New York, 1852. Wall map, on two sheets, not joined. Inset: Atlantic Ocean. Elaborate border containing 12 vignettes of towns, monuments and American life. Size is overall, if joined : 86 x 108 cm. (34 x 42½ in.) This map issue shows not only the "Gold Region" near "New Helvetia", but also "El Dorado or Gold Region" along the Feather River. It also has quite an extensive "Table of Distances" added at the right of the inset.
The solar system plans are wonderfully colored.
Including an attractive comparative mountains chart. Shows many of the world's greatest mountains and volcanoes in proximity to one other such that we can compare and contrast not only their heights, but also their forms. Illustrates eight volcanoes shooting flames into the air. Dhaulagiri, in the Nepali Himalayas is identified as the world's greatest peak. In the lower quadrants of the chart some subterranean distances are shown, most specifically the Mines of Anxin.
