Description
Included in "A New, Authentic, and Complete Account of Voyages Round the World" by George William Anderson.
Considered by many to be Cook's "Centerpiece Map" and the most important world map of the 18th century. Cook filled in much of the world that was previously unknown including:
- The navigation of the East coast of Australia,
- The discovery of Hawaii (where Cook was killed in 1779 by the natives)
- Many new islands filled in the South Pacific.
- The circumnavigation of New Zealand
- The circumnavigation of Newfoundland
The map was engraved by Thomas Conder from notes from Cook abd Roberts. It was published by Alexander Hogg in 1784 in London and therefore was the first and most accurate map of the world at that time. (Not to be confused with Caddell's 1785 map)
