Description
Pictorial map of the world centered on the Pacific with a route around the globe, starting and finishing in Paris. The map features 120 images of explorers, plants, animals, and structures from around the world. Three small inserts present maps of the Congo, India and Tibet, and Israel. A red line of travel connects each place name on the map and the seas are colored by their distance from the equator.
Published by the French Chocolate manufacture Menier. Following Menier’s death in 1853, his son Emile-Justin took control of the business and commissioned the artist Firmin Bouissiet to design the posters to further promote Menier chocolates .
In 1956, Chocolat Menier devised a substantial competition based on the world travels of “Jacqueline”, the little girl featured in the company’s promotional posters
They published a book Le Tour du Monde en 120 images detailing her travels as part of the competition.
Below the map an area to fix 120 'tickets' to be collected from Menier chocolate products. Once complete the tickets had to be sent off in order to join the competition. Considering that the promotion was aimed at children, the world map rarely survived their use and here in the rare very fine and complete state.
The artist was J.B. Jannot, who used the pen-name Jan-Loup. He worked as an illustrator for Lisette magazine in the 1950s and early 1960s, as well as authoring his own comic stories and producing book jackets.

- Starting at 4.00 PM EST (Amsterdam 22.00) the following day up to the closing you may purchase an item at the Buy price.
- Once the Buy price is paid the sale for this item has closed.
- We show the "Bid & Ask spread" (to define the gap between the minimum accepted bid and Buy price.)
- Items that have received bids within the BidAsk spread are sold at the highest bid at closing.
