Description
The most important influence on European maps of Japan during the early years of the eighteenth century was that of E. Kaempfer based upon the manuscripts compiled during his 2 years of residence on Deshima between 1690 and 1692.
The map has two inset maps: one with the region north of Japan with Kamtschatka, the Chinese coast and part of Korea.
One of the main points of interest is that the names of the provinces are not given in romanized version as on previous maps but also in Chinese characters.
The map includes a dedication to Sir Hans Sloane, an inset with a detailed map of the regions to the north of Japan, and a table of distances from Japan to other countries of the world.
After Japan's attempts at conquest failed, peace was re-established between the two nations. Once again, the islands became a port for merchants. Both the Joseon Dynasty and the Tokugawa shogunate sent their trading representatives to Tsushima, governing trade until 1755.

The other inset map is part with Jeso.

To the left Tsushima Island, which is located west of the Kanmon Strait at a latitude between Honshu and Kyushu of the Japanese mainland.
Tsushima is the closest Japanese territory to the Korean peninsula, lying approximately 50 km from Busan. On a clear day, the hills and mountains of the Korean peninsula are visible from the higher elevations on the two northern mountains.
In the late 16th century, Japanese leader Toyotomi Hideyoshi united the various feudal lords (daimyo) under his command. Planning to unite all factions with a common cause, Hideyoshi's coalition invaded Joseon Dynasty Korea in an attack leading to the Seven-Year War. Tsushima was the main naval base for this invasion, and in continuing support of the war, large numbers of Korean laborers were transported to Tsushima until 1603.
