Description
Made in the atelier of the Parisian publisher of religious works L. Desgodets et Gérard, active at 10 rue du Vieux Colombier et 10 rue Madame, Paris.
The neo-Gothic style is an architectural style born in the middle of the 18th century in England.
In France, the Revolution had broken its ties with the Christian and monarchic past which created a deep social and cultural traumatism. Nostalgia for a glorious national past, an imaginary past was the source of new inspiration. In the 2nd half of the 19th. century starts a revival of the interest in medieval art, not only in neogothic architecture, as we see in the many churches and official buildings during these decades in the flamboyant gothic style.
Also books for liturgical use were written in the original gothic style on parchment with sparkling illuminations and miniatures. Paris became a center for these manuscripts, mostly created in honor of marriages.
L. Desgodets et Gérard was one of the most important publishers of religious books, prayer books, books of hours and all type of devotional prints.

We indicate the condition of each item and use our unnique HiBCoR grading system in which four key items determine a map's value: Historical Importance, Beauty, Condition/Coloring and Rarity.
We offer many maps in their original black and white condition. We do not systematically color-up maps to make them more sellable to the general public or buyer.
Copper engraved or wood block maps are always hand colored. Maps were initially colored for aesthetic reasons and to improve readability. Nowadays, it is becoming a challenge to find maps in their original colors and are therefor more valuable.
We use the following color keys in our catalog:
Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century, then "colored", or "attractive colors" will be used.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.

A flat shipping fee of $ 25 is added to each shipment within Europe and North America. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
Shipments to Asia are $ 40 and rest of the world $50
