Chromo lithographed folded map showing Borneo with Brunei, Sarawak, British North Borneo Company or Sabah. One of the first maps showing the British North Borneo Company territory.
In upper part five inset maps with Among Bay, Gaya Bay, Sandakan Harbour, Kudat Harbour and a map of the Eastern Hemisphere including Australia.
According to a line underneath the map "London, Published for the British North Borneo Company, by Edward Stanford, 55 Charing Cross.
The British North Borneo Company was a chartered company assigned to administer North Borneo (today's Sabah in Malaysia) in August 1881. North Borneo became a protectorate of the British Empire with internal affairs administered by the company until 1946 when it became the Crown Colony of British North Borneo.
According to text underneath the title "Lands ceded to the British North Borneo Company, colored Red. Drawn from the Admiralty charts and reports of the Company's own Surveyors.
The Dutch portions drawn from the Admiralty Charts & the 'Atlas Nederlandsch Indië'.
The Sarawak &Brunei drawn from Mr. Crocker's map in R.G.S. Proceedings April 1881".
