To the right and left are coastal profile views of the island. Scale in Dutch, English and French miles.
Curaçao was "discovered" in 1499 by the Spaniard Alonso de Ojeda. The Dutch West India Company (WIC) took over from the Spanish in August 1634. In 1635-36, the beginning of the construction of Fort Amsterdam, and in 1665 the slave trade by WIC starts.
After the bankruptcy of the WIC in 1791, the island became a Dutch colony.
Inland we see “vervalle capel” and on several locations are “vervalle huysen” and “sout panne voor ingeseetene”.
In Sint Annabaai we see the Fort Amsterdam and “een Ronde Put of Kuyl daer men vers Water haalt”, “Ruyters Quartier”,and “water plaets” and a “Plantagie”.
The map was revised once by the Van Keulen company and published in a corrected version from 1728 to 1783. From the end of the 18th century, the map image was copied and also marketed by English publishers.
